My First Buffalo Burger

I don't believe it. Miracles do happen. For some time now I have been hinting to Ted at the KP Cafe that I wanted to try one of his buffalo burgers and finally I got one. Five days each week I can smell them cooking, but would Ted ever bring me one? No. He would just keep cooking and all I could do is sniff the air and hope that he would remember the poor little wolf down the street and bring me one. This was pure torture because if you remember from past articles, we wolves have 100 times the sense of smell of you humans. When he and Bob fire up that old stove and the odor of that great food penetrates the air, my nose goes into overdrive and I start drooling. (For those of you who are concerned for me, this story does have a happy ending).

A short while back, Ted's partner at the Cafe, Kris, came down to visit with me. I pleaded my case and she took note. Let me tell you, Kris has class. Not only is she a great cook, but she brought me a buffalo burger and boy did I enjoy it. I savored every bite. The flavor was as great as it's aroma. I must admit that I ignored some of my visitors when Kris arrived but it's not every day I get a KP Cafe buffalo burger. After I had my burger I thanked Kris with a wolf kiss.

If any of you readers get up Silver Plume way, be sure to stop in the KP Cafe and have a great meal. They are open Wednesday through Sunday from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM and they reopen on Friday and Saturday evenings from 5:30 to 8:30 for dinner. Take it from me, the food is great. Tell them that Cheyenne sent you. If you have the extra time, come and visit me down the street at Visions West Gallery. I must admit that I wouldn't mind it if you shared your leftovers with me, especially any buffalo burgers.

I have some other news to share with you. You may remember that not long ago the Colorado legislature decided that there might be a wolf dog problem in the state, so they passed Senate Bill 97-167. This bill authorized "a study of certain hybrid animals". The Commissioner of the Department of Agriculture has been authorized to appoint and convene an advisory group to study the behavior of hybrid canids and felines. This group is to report back no later than January 15, 1998 to the legislative committees of reference with a summary of it's findings, including, if necessary, proposals for legislation. My dad, Mark Johnson, is one of fifteen members that have been appointed to this committee. His job is to represent owners of wolf-dogs. If you have a wolf-dog or any other dog that looks wolf-like, and you have some concerns, comments, or suggestions that you would like expressed to this committee, write to Mark Wm. Johnson, % Visions West Gallery, PO Box 984, Silver Plume, CO 80476, phone number (303) 569-0138. Names and addresses will be kept confidential upon request.
